RUSTON, La. — Sam Houston secured game two of the series with a 7-4 win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday afternoon at Billy Bundrick Field.Â
The Bearkats (29-19, 13-7 CUSA) carried momentum from game one, jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning. Veronica Harrison extended the advantage in the second with her 16th home run of the season, pushing the score to 6-1.Â
The Bulldogs (22-23, 8-12 CUSA) responded in the bottom of the second with back-to-back singles to cut the deficit to 6-3. Amy Abke made her first start in the circle since returning from injury, throwing 46 pitches with one strikeout. Freshman Carlee Bubela entered in relief and closed out the inning without allowing a hit or run.Â
Louisiana Tech added another run in the third while retiring the side in order defensively. Kendall Daniel entered the circle for Sam Houston, allowing one run on one hit in the inning.Â
Sam Houston added insurance in the fourth when Bella Perez doubled to left-center and Kyla Heine followed with an RBI single to extend the lead. Daniel held the Bulldogs to one baserunner in the inning and did not allow a run.Â
Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth. Daniel continued to be efficient, working a quick inning for the Bearkats.Â
In the sixth, Sam Houston recorded singles from Perez and Abbey Papadimitriou, but Louisiana Tech pitcher Bryannah Campos stranded the runners with back-to-back strikeouts.Â
Daniel maintained control in the circle, limiting Louisiana Tech's offense heading into the seventh. Morgan Holliday led off the inning with an infield single, but Campos prevented further damage to keep it a three-run game.Â
In the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs opened with a single down the left-field line — just the second hit allowed by Daniel in four innings. Daniel responded with two consecutive strikeouts to close out the 7-4 victory.Â
The Bearkats finalize the series tomorrow April 19th at 11 a.m. at Billy Bundrick Field.
