RUSTON, La. — Sam Houston fell to Louisiana Tech 6-3 in the series finale Sunday at Billy Bundrick Field.

The Bearkats (29-20, 13-8 Conference USA) struck first with a solo home run from Veronica Harrison, her 17th of the season. The Bulldogs (23-23, 9-12 CUSA) responded quickly as Alannah Rogers doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandi Gallaway to tie the game.

Both teams were held hitless through the second and third innings.

Louisiana Tech broke through in the fourth, scoring three runs, highlighted by a two-run home run from Gallaway. Neither team scored in the fifth.

Sam Houston added a run in the sixth when Sophia Lundstrom hit her first collegiate home run, but the Bulldogs answered in the bottom half with a two-run double from Jina Baffuto to extend their lead.

The Bearkats attempted a late rally in the seventh, as Lundstrom delivered an RBI double to cut into the deficit. However, Louisiana Tech closed out the game to secure the 6-3 win.

Abigail Young started in the circle for Sam Houston, pitching three innings and allowing five hits and four runs with no walks. Tiffany Sanchez entered in relief and recorded two quick outs in the fourth before adding two strikeouts. Kendall Daniel finished the game, allowing no hits, runs or walks.

Sam Houston will remain on the road to face Houston at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Cougar Softball Stadium in Houston.
