Kats deliver strong showing at Charles Austin Classic

SAN MARCOS — Sam Houston track and field teams delivered a strong showing at the Charles Austin Classic, hosted by Texas State at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex, highlighted by multiple event wins and a record-breaking relay performance.
On the women's side, Nora Ryan led the way with a first-place finish in the 800 meters, clocking in at 2:10.36, while also placing seventh in the 1500 meters. Ellie Galan added a seventh-place finish in the 800 and ninth in the 1500.
In the field events, Kapualani Magnani placed sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.57 meters, while Jatoryia Barnes finished fifth in the triple jump (12.18m). Nia Thompson also turned in a solid performance, finishing ninth in the long jump (6.29m).
On the men's side, Caleb Anthony claimed a victory in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.26. The Bearkats also saw a standout performance in the 200 meters, where Omarion Ferguson took third (20.73), followed closely by Xzamion Parker (7th) and Ikenna Opara (8th).
The highlight of the meet came in the 4x100-meter relay, where the team of Parker, Javain Johnson, Ferguson, and Tyriq Brunn captured first place with a time of 39.47, setting a new meet record.
Additional top finishes included Will Smith, who placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, and strong showings in the pole vault from Parker Brown (4th) and Nathan Williams (6th).
The Bearkats will return to action at the 44 Farms Team Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station, beginning April 9.
