COLLEGE STATION — Sam Houston cross country competed against a strong field at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday, with the men's team finishing 12th and the women's team placing 11th.
The Bearkats faced a field that included several NCAA Division I programs, including Stephen F. Austin, Texas, TCU, Houston, Texas A&M, Lamar, UT-Tyler and Louisiana, along with Blinn College, Our Lady of the Lake and St. Edward's on the men's side. The women's field featured SMU, Texas A&M, Houston, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Louisiana, Texas, Lamar, St. Edward's and UT-Tyler.
The Bearkat men finished with 310 points, led by Bryson Meredith, who paced Sam Houston in the men's 8K with a 52nd-place finish in 26:05.0. Elijah Savage followed in 59th at 26:12.2, while Klever Torres placed 73rd with a time of 26:34.7.
Joseph Simon finished 74th at 26:37.1, followed by Anthony Perez in 85th at 27:03.8 and Kelvin Sarfo in 105th at 27:47.9.
The women's team totaled 291 points, with Sophia Phillip leading the way in 55th at 18:58.2. Bailey Cheshire followed in 59th at 19:06.2, while Zerah Martinez finished 63rd at 19:08.3.
Avery Brown placed 72nd in 19:16.8, followed by Aida Kane-Diallo in 84th at 19:44.3. Shayla Brittain finished 102nd in 20:51.0, while Elina Bailey rounded out the Bearkats in 108th at 21:12.8.
The Texas A&M Invitational marked another early-season test for the Bearkats against a competitive regional field as Sam Houston continues to build toward the remainder of its 2026 schedule.
Sam Houston returns to action Sept. 24 at the Prairie View Invite.
