Kats open 2026-27 season in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wisc. – The Sam Houston women's golf team will open the 2026-27 season Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course.
Hosted by Wisconsin, the three-day tournament will feature 54 holes, with 18 holes played each day. The par-72 course will play at 6,297 yards and features narrow fairways, greenside bunkers, and water hazards.
The Badger Invitational has been played since 2012 and returns to University Ridge for another edition of the annual event. The course was ranked No. 3 among the Top 20 College Golf Courses in Golfer's Choice in 2025 and was also recognized among the Best of Madison/Silver Golf Courses by Madison Magazine in 2025.
The Bearkats will compete in a 16-team field that features four Conference USA opponents: Delaware, FIU, New Mexico State and Western Kentucky. The remainder of the field includes Bradley, Boise State, Colorado State, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Washington State and host Wisconsin.
Sam Houston has competed in the Badger Invitational since 2023, recording its best finish of second place in 2024. The Bearkats placed 11th of 15 teams in 2023, second of 13 teams in 2024 and ninth of 14 teams in 2025.
Last season, Sam Houston finished ninth at 37-over par. Francesca Sumcad led the Bearkats individually, finishing tied for 10th at even par. Sumcad carded rounds of 74, 72 and 70, closing the tournament with four birdies in the final round. Amelia Guo finished tied for 28th at seven-over par after rounds of 73, 76 and 74, while Bomyeong Lee placed 44th at 11-over par with rounds of 74, 74 and 79. Victoria Renzi finished 72nd after shooting 79, 79 and 81.
The Bearkats welcome two newcomers to the roster for the 2026-27 season. Transfer Brooke Frerichs joins Sam Houston from Lamar, while freshman Jordyn Herridge begins her collegiate career with the Bearkats.
Live scoring will be available through Scoreboard by Clippd, with scores updated throughout each round and results posted at the conclusion of each day.
