Mitch Huckabay joined the Bearkat staff in July of 2021 as the volunteer assistant after previously serving as an assistant coach at Northeast Texas Community College.
Prior to NTCC, Huckabay served on staffs at Vernon College, LSU Shreveport and Southern Arkansas.
During the 2021 season at NTCC, Huckabay helped 5 hitters earn all-conference honors, including 1 all-region selection. Additionally, he helped assemble a recruiting class ranked in the top 20 among JuCos in the nation according to Perfect Game.
A former player at Northwestern State, Huckabay transferred to LSU Alexandria where he woudl go on to earn All-Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) first team honors, RRAC Conference Tournament All-Tournament Team and All-Louisiana second team. He was the conference and NAIA Rawlings Gold Glove Award Winner for Second Base in 2015, and leading the nation in fielding percentage by not committing an error in 218 chances for the season.
Upon graduating from LSU Alexandria in 2015, he moved on to Southern Arkansas as a graduate assistant coach and eventually earned his Masters of Science in Kinesiology in 2017 prior to taking his first full time position with LSU Shreveport. While at LSU Shreveport, he helped direct the Pilots to back-to-back regular-season conference championships while being ranked nationally in multiple offensive categories.
