Chris Rogers 2021 Head Shot

Chris Rogers

Recruiting Area: Greater East Houston - Southeast Texas

Former Bearkat player Chris Rogers is entering his fourth season the Bearkat coaching staff in 2021.

He tutored the Sam Houston tight ends in each of his first two seasons on staff before taking over offensive line duties just prior to the Spring 2021 season that saw the Kats claim the program's first FCS national title.

In each of his first two seasons he helped tutor one of the top tight ends in the Southland Conference, Woody Brandom, who was eventually named to the all-SLC first team in 2019. He then saw three offensive linemen - Colby Thomas (first team), Prince Pines (second team) and Ethan Hagler (second team) - earn all-SLC honors in 2020.

A former offensive lineman on the 2011 and 2012 Bearkat squads that each advanced to the FCS title game, Rogers served as a quality control assistant on the Bearkat staff in 2017 before being promoted into his current position prior to the 2018 season.

That came after a 2016 season spent at his high school alma mater - Columbine High School (Littleton, Colo.) - where he was the offensive line coach. There he coached a pair of all-state players, including ESPN top-100 player Andrew Gentry. Rogers also spent the 2015 season as the offensive line coach at Garden City Community College.

An all-conference player from 2006-09 at Columbine High School, he helped lead his team to a state title. He then went on to earn all-league honors at Iowa Central Community College in both 2009 and 2010 before coming to Sam Houston State.

Upon his arrival, Rogers has known nothing but success. During his two years playing under head coach Willie Fritz he helped anchor the offensive line, earning all-Southland Conference honors in both 2011 and 2012.
