Women's golf finish fourth at Fred Marx Invt

MONROE, LA ? Led by Kirsten Spittler who finished third overall, the Sam Houston State women's golf team finished in fourth place at the Fred Marx Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Louisana at Monroe.
Spittler fired a final-round 71, the lowest round of the tournament to move up two spots to third place on the final day of competition. For her three rounds she shot 71-80-71 -- 222.
Wendy Joyner fired a 71-79-81 ?231 total to finish 14th. Other Sam Houston scores include Landa Stewart in 34th place (79-76-85?240), Amanda Carmona 17th (78-80-76?234), Katelyn Jones 34rd (79-84-77?240) and Ellie McKinley 53rd (87-81-86?254).
Samford won the team competition with an 896 score. Central Arkansas took second (917), followed by Jacksonville State (918), SHSU (927), McNeese (933), ULM (941), South Alabama (944), Houston Baptist (949), Arkansas State (952), Nicholls State (967) and Centenary (977).
