Lamar Wins Sam Houston Invitational

HUNTSVILLE -- Therese Nilsson and Hillary Ziegler of Lamar finished first and second in the individual medalist competition to lead the Cardinals to the team title at the Sam Houston State Women's Golf Invitational at Raven's Nest Monday and Tuesday.
The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after Monday morning's first round was rained out. The golfers finished 12 holes Monday evening, then completed the final 24 Tuesday.
Ana Carrillo was the top individual finisher for Sam Houston, placing third with a 76-72--148. Nilsson produced a one-under 73-70--143 total. Ziegler fired a 77-69--146 score.
Lamar won the team championship with a 597 total. Oklahoma City was second at 616, followed by Redlands 622, Sam Houston 624, Centenary 629, Texas-San Antonio "Blue" 630, Central Arkansas 631, Nicholls State 649, McLennan 650, Northwood 668, UTSA Orange 674, and Houston Baptist 708.
Other finishes by Sam Houston State golfers included Jennifer Heinz 8th (73-79--152), Wendy Joyner 13th (78-77--155), Landa Stewart 13th (77-78--155), Emily Bartholet (33rd 81-81--162), Amanda Carmona 51st (90-81--171) and Katie Hathaway 53rd (82-91--173).
