
Irina Sotnikova, Peta Taylor named All-SLC

Irina Sotnikova and Peta Taylor of Sam Houston State University have been named as first team selections on the 2008 All-Southland Conference women's tennis team.
Sotnikova, a junior from Riga, Latvia, and Taylor, a junior from Ardross, Australia, have been recognized as the top doubles team in the league. The pair compiled a 9-1 record at number one doubles while leading Sam Houston to a 6-5 Southland Conference record and a tie for fifth place in the final regular season standings.
Sam Houston State will be the No. 6 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament in Nacogdoches beginning Friday at 9:30 a.m. The Bearkats will play No. 3 seed Northwestern State in the first round.
Sotnikova and Taylor went 18-2 in dual match play at number one singles and were 26-7 in doubles overall including fall tournament play. Those 26 victories set a Sam Houston State school record for wins in a season.
