Scott Kelly earns Southland Golfer of Month honor

FRISCO, Texas - Sam Houston State's Scott Kelly has been named the Southland Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for October, the league office announced Wednesday.
Kelly, a junior from Kingwood, Texas (Kingwood), won the Elkins Lake Fall Classic Oct. 13 and recorded two other top-10 finishes during the month. He recorded rounds of 69 and 67 to card a 136 in the rain-shortened tournament in Huntsville. Earlier in the month, he finished ninth at the Louisiana Tech Classic with a three-round score of 216. He also recorded a ninth-place effort with a score of 217 at the UTSA Lone Star Oct. 18-19. In eight rounds in October, Kelly averaged 71.1 strokes and carded a low round of 67.
There were three Southland golfers who earned honorable mention this month, including Central Arkansas' Gideon Pienaar, UT Arlington's Zack Fischer and Stephen F. Austin's Stetson McMillan.
Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the golfers of the month, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a golfer must receive votes from at least 25 percent of the Southland sports
