
Wendy Joyner named All-Southland Conference

Wendy Joyner, Sam Houston State senior from Montgomery, has been named as a second team selection on the 2009 All-Southland Conference women's golf squad.
Joyner led the Bearkat women's golf team with a 78.2 stroke average this spring that including two top 10 individual tournament finishes during the regular season and an eighth place finish at the Southland Conference tournament.
Ten Southland Conference women's golfers were honored, five on the first team and five on the second. Nicole Forshner (Central Arkansas), Therese Nilsson (Lamar), Maggie Welch (McNeese), Allie Jordan (UTSA) and Sydney Liles (Texas State-San Marcos) were first team selections.
Joyner, Lacy McKinley (McNeese), Rebecca Sorensen (Central Arkansas), Ashley Watkins (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) and Channing Norton (Lamar) were named to the second team.
Sam Houston State placed sixth as a team at the 2009 Southland Conference women's golf championship tournament held at Koasati Pines Golf Club in Lake Charles, LA. On the final day, the Bearkats shot a team score of 300, tying an SLC tournament record.
