Fergal Rafferty, Scott Kelly named All-SLC golfers

Fergal Rafferty and Scott Kelly of Sam Houston State both have been named to the 2009 men's golf All-Southland Conference team.
The honor squad is selected by vote of the league's men's golf head coaches and sports information directors.
Rafferty, a junior from Carrickmore, Omagh in North Ireland, was a first team selection after leading the Bearkats in stroke average with a 73.0 mark and placing eighth individually at the Southland Conference men's golf championship April 27-29.
Rafferty won two individual medalist titles this season, finishing first at the Texoma Shoot-out in Kingston, OK, Oct. 5-7 and the UTSA Fall Classic in Kerrville Oct. 28-29. He was the runner-up at the Hal Sutton Invitational in Shreveport, LA, April 6-7 and placed third at the North Texas Mean Green Classic at Denton Sept. 10-11. Rafferty helped lead Sam Houston State to five tournament team championships during the 2008-09 season.
Kelly was a third team selection. The sophomore from Kingwood ranked second on the team in stroke average with a 73.5 mark. Kelly finished as the runner-up at the North Texas tournament and the Oral Roberts Golden Hurricane Classic Sept. 29-30 in Tulsa, OK. Kelly finished among the top 10 individuals in six of the 11 tournaments in which he participated.
