BRYAN - The Sam Houston State women's golf team finished sixth in the Bearkats' first intercollegiate tournament of the 2009 fall schedule Friday and Saturday at the rain-shortened 16th annual Texas A&M "Mo"Morial Invitational.
Texas A&M was declared the team champion and Aggie freshmen Julia Boland and Sarah Beth Davis shared individual honors after Sunday's final round of the 16th Texas A&M Mo Morial Invitational was cancelled because of rain. The scheduled 54-hole event was reduced to 18 holes after weather also forced the cancellation of Saturday's second round.
The Aggies carded an opening round score of 290, which set a tournament scoring record. The 11-team field started the first round on Friday and completed it early Saturday.
Tulane finished second at 297, followed by Tulsa (299), UT-San Antonio (307), Oklahoma (309), Southern Mississippi (314), Sam Houston State (314), Texas State (322), A&M Corpus-Christi (325), Texas-Pan American (335) and Troy (338).
Kristen Spittler led Sam Houston State's entries, placing eighth in the individual standings with a 75. Other Sam Houston individual finishes and scores included Landa Stewart 23rd 78, Jessica Borth 30th 80, Shelby Hardy 36th 81 and Meghan Musk 50th 84.
Next action for the Bearkat women will be Oct. 5-6 when Sam Houston State travels to Tulsa for the Oral Roberts Intercollegiate Classic.
