San Antonio -- The Sam Houston State men's golf team posted a 54-hole team score of 302-291-296--889 to place ninth in the 12-team Lone Star Invitational hosted by UTSA Sunday and Monday.

UT-Arlington won the team championship with a 291-278-286--855 total. The event was played on the par 72, 7,234-yard course at Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

Kort O'Leary, Blaine Weiterman and Albert Miner led the Bearkats in the tournament. O'Leary tied for 20th with a 220 total, Weiterman was 26th with a 211 and Miner 30th at 222. James Glenn placed 45th with a 226 total and Jeff Litwak was 58th at 235.

Carlos Ortiz of North Texas won the individual medalist championship with a five-under score of 71-73-67--211.

Notre Dame was team runner-up with an 862 total, followed by North Texas 863, Texas State 870, UTEP 873, Weber State 882, Houston and Stephen F. Austin 883, Sam Houston 889, Louisiana-Monroe 894, UT-Pan American 903 and UTSA 919.
