Strong performance at SFA tournament

Botha, a freshman from Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa, won the D singles flight championship, defeating competitors from Lamar, Tyler Junior College, Texas State and Stephen F. Austin.
Currie and Woerner teamed to win the B doubles flight, knocking off two doubles teams from Northwestern State and duos from Texas State and Lee College in the semifinals and finals, respectively. Currie is a sophomore from Mount Pleasant, Western Australia while Woener is a senior from Boerne, Texas.
Kayla Stevenson, freshman from Thornlands, Queensland, Australia, was the runner-up in the B singles flight. Nadia Dubyanskaya, sophomore from Togliatty, Samara Oblast, Russia took third place in the C singles and paired with fellow sophomore Tatyana Postnikova of Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstani, Russia to finish in third place in the A doubles.
Natalie Petaia, freshman from Toowong, Queensland, Australia, won the consolation championship in the C singles.
"This weekend's performance was a much stronger effort by the team than in our first tournament at North Texas two weeks ago," Sam Houston head coach Jim Giachino said. "The hard work the girls are putting in every day in practice already is beginning to show results. We had a great team spirit and attitude on the court all weekend."
Next up for the Bearkat women's tennis team will be the Tyler Intercollegiate Friday and Saturday, October 15-16, in Tyler, Texas.
