Fergal Rafferty finishes as runner-up at SLC men's golf

Springfield, La. -- Sam Houston State's Fergal Rafferty fired an even par 54-hole total of 216 to tie for runner-up in the individual competition at the 2010 Southland Conference men's golf championship.
The three-day event was played on the par 72 7,432-yard layout at Carter Plantation Golf Club.
Rafferty's performance helped Sam Houston State to finish third in the overall team competition. Southeastern Louisiana unseated four-time defending Southland Conference champion Lamar with a 294-285-283--862 total.
Central Arkansas was the team runner-up at 291-290-292--873. Sam Houston State's third place card read 291-299-296--886. Stephen F. Austin was fourth in the team standings with an 887 total, followed by UT-Arlington 891, Lamar 892, UTSA 902, Texas St. 909, McNeese 939 and Nicholls 943.
Alvaro Arizabaleta of Southeastern Louisiana won the individual medalist trophy with a 72-67-69--208 score. Rafferty tied for second place with Steven Lecuyer of Central Arkansas.
Other Sam Houston State individual scores and finishes included Scott Kelly (75-76-73--224) and Garrett Driver (72-75-77--224) in 17th place, Beau Willis (78-77-74--229) 31st and Justin McKay (71-79-80--230) in 36th.
