Women's golf third at HBU Husky Invitational

Missouri City, Tx. - Led by Shelby Hardy who finished fifth in the final individual standings, the Sam Houston women's golf team placed third out of eight teams in the Husky Invitational hosted by Houston Baptist at par 72, 6,158-yard course Sienna Plantation Golf Club Monday and Tuesday.
Hardy stood atop the individual standings with a two-over 146 total after Monday's first two rounds, but fired an 88 in Tuesday's final round to drop to fifth with a 234 54-hole score. Paola Valerio of UTSA won the individual medalist trophy with a 76-73-75--224 total. Paige Gibson of host HBU was the tournament runner-up at 81-72-77--230.
Houston Baptist won the team championship with 54-hole score of 927. UTSA was the team runner-up at 929, followed by Sam Houston 956, Louisiana-Monroe 959, McLennan 984, Stephen F. Austin 1,019, Centenary 1,020 and North Dakota 1,064.
Other Sam Houston finishs and scores were Landa Stewart 11th 75-81-81--237, Meghan Musk 16th 83-77-81--241, Jessica Borth 22nd 77-82-89--248, Meghann Stevens 26th 86-88-78--252, Kirsten Spittler 28th 85-81-88--254.
Sam Houston State will host the annual Southland Conference women's golf tournament at Raven's Nest in Huntsville Monday through Wednesday, April 19-21.
