Tatyana Posnikova, Nadia Dubyanskaya and Sheridan Currie won their singles matches and the Bearkats took the doubles point to power Sam Houston State to a 5-2 women's tennis dual match victory Saturday at the McAdams Courts.
Dubyanskaya and Currie both won in three sets. Dubyanskaya defeated Tatiana Denexhkina 7-5 2-6 6-2 at number three singles and Currie came from behind to defeat Marina Ljoshevska at number five 2-6 6-4 6-4. Postnikova downed Natalia Zamor 6-3 6-3 at number two singles.
Sam Houston won all three doubles prosets. Dubyanskaya and Postnikova won 8-6 at number one. Currie and Cally Woerner won 8-3 at two doubles. Nicholls defaulted at both number three doubles and number six singles.
"I am very proud of how hard our team fights, but we need to learn to start matches with much better focus," SHSU head coach Jim Giachino said. "Right now we're letting too many teams hang around because of our slow starts. We can't afford to do that against quality opponents."
Sam Houston will play host to Southeastern Louisiana in an 12 noon Southland dual match Sunday.
