Bearkat netters host UCA Saturday

The Bearkats play host to Central Arkansas at 10 a.m. Saturday then face off with Northwestern State at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The Kats' two opponents stand at opposite ends of the Southland Conference women's tennis standings.
The UCA Bears have won only once in 14 dual matches this year and are mired in the basement of the Southland standings with an 0-7 league mark. Central Arkansas has lost 49 consecutive Southland matches. Their last league victory came in 2007.
Northwestern State on the other hand is in the thick of the battle for the Southland title. The Demons are 13-4 for the season and 6-1 in league action.
Sam Houston will be looking to halt a four-match losing skid. The Kats' last victory was a 4-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana on March 26. Since then, SHSU has lost to Tyler, SFA, UT-Arlington and Texas State. The Bearkats stand 6-6 for the year and are 3-4 in Southland Conference play.
The Bearkats are a young team with a line-up featuring four freshmen, three sophomores and one senior. Cally Woerner, a doubles specialist from Boerne, Texas, is the lone senior and will be playing her final home matches this weekend after lettering the past two seasons.
Sam Houston will complete the regular season with a trip to South Texas to face UTSA on Saturday, April 16 and A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, April 17.
The annual Southland Conference post-season tournament will be held in Corpus Christi Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1.
The top eight finishers in the final regular season standings earn tournament berths. Sam Houston currently is tied with Texas State for sixth place although the Bobcats own the tiebreaker over SHSU with their 4-3 victory last week.
The Bearkats are seeking to earn a post-season tournament berth for the seventh season in a row.
