SHSU runners-up at La-Monroe

In their first tournament of the 2012-13 season, the Sam Houston State women's golf team finished as runners-up at the Louisiana-Monroe Fred Marx Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
The event was held on the par 72, 6,186-yard course at Bayou Desiard Country Club.
Southern Mississippi edged Sam Houston by four strokes for the team title. USM fired a team 54-hole total of 292-301-301-894 while the Bearkats carded a 299-297-302-898.
Sixteen teams were in the tournament field including three other Southland Conference opponents.
Julie Aime of Lamar won the individual medalist championship with a two-under total of 70-73-71-214. Brandi Rodriguez was the runner-up with a 73-71-71-215. Sam Houston's Shelby Hardy placed third, shooting 72-73-73-218.
Other Sam Houston finishes included Jessica Borth ninth (74-75-74-223), Meghan Musk 16th (77-75-75-227), Jenna Stene 40th (76-78-80-234) and Nicole Budnick 55th (82-74-81-237).
"We are excited about the runner-up finish in our first tournament of the year," SHSU head golf coach Brandt Kieschnick said. "We got off to a rough start this morning, but we brought it back and had a chance to win with three holes left in the event. It was a great way to start the year."
