Kats post victories in Demon Invitational

The Sam Houston tennis team had an outstanding performance in the squad's first complete intercollegiate tournament during the 2013 fall schedule this weekend.
Playing at the Northwestern State Demon Invitational, the Bearkats saw all three of their doubles teams reach the finals of their respective flights, one player win a singles flight and two win consolation titles.
Senior Natalie Petaia won the No. 6 singles flight, defeating Juliette Clement of Louisiana-Lafayette 6-4 6-2 in the finals.
Junior Olivia Battye took the consolation championship in the No. 5 singles flight, winning 7-6 6-1 over Nadiya Kulibaba of Lamar.
Sophomore Maddie Mortimore won the No. 1 singles consolation title with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Anastasia Surkova of McNeese State.
In doubles, seniors Imka Jagau and Kayla Stevenson reached the finals with victories over No. 1 doubles pairings from Houston and Louisiana Tech. Mortimore and transfer Karen Martinez paired to reach the No. 2 doubles final after defeating duos from Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin. Petaia and freshman Bella Costa reached the No. 3 championship round with victories over Grambling State and SFA.
