Bearkats pick up wins at ITA Regionals

Sam Houston women's tennis picked up several victories in action at the ITA Southwest Regionals being played in Fort Worth at TCU.
Olivia Battye won her first round singles match over Jennifer Betancourt of Incarnate Word 6-2 6-1.
Karen Martinez and Kayla Stevenson both reached the round of 16 in consolation singles action.
In doubles, Imka Jagau and Kayla Stevenson teamed to defeated Callie Creek and Rose Rodriguez from UIW 8-3 and Maddie Mortimore and Karen Martinez paired to knock off Geri Garcia and Jana Junger of UTSA 8-5.
Stevenson defeated Maider Martin from A&M-Corpus Christi in a walkover, then knocked off Didi Fatchikova of UTPA in a super tiebreaker after splitting sets. She lost in the round of 16 to Christine Foote of UTA 6-5 6-3
Martinez beat Daniela Garcia-Diaz of UTSA 6-0 6-3 and Ansley Boarman of Abilene Christian. She fell to Angeles DeLos Rios 6-0 6-2.
In the first round of singles action Friday, Jagau lost to Lina Padegimaite of Texas 6-3 6-0; Battye fell to No. 4 seed Stefanie Tan of TCU 6-3 6-2; Bella Costa lost to Carolina Maso of Lamar 6-3 6-3; Martinez was defeated 6-1 6-1 by No. 17 seed Miham Canudas of UTSA 6-1 6-1; Mortimore lost to Monica Pieratt of Texas State 6-1 6-4 and Natalie Petaia fell to Nada Marjanovic of Abilene Christian 6-3 7-6.
In doubles first round competition, Jagau and Stevenson lost to Betti Bhosale and Marie Mamalet of Texas A&M 8-2 and Costa and Petaia fell to Gerri Garrilovska and Mary McCord of Texas A&M 8-5.
