
Women Face Top Teams In Nebraska

The No. 6 ranked Sam Houston women's bowling team heads to Lincoln, Nebr., this weekend to take on a talent laden field at the Big Red Invitational.
No. 1 ranked University of Nebraska is the tournament host at Sun Valley Lanes. The Cornerhuskers welcome seven other teams that include No. 3 Central Missouri, No. 4 Arkansas State, No. 6 Sam Houston, No. 8 Wisconsin-Whitewater and No. 14 Valparaiso. Also participating are unranked McKendree and Elmhurst.
“We'll definitely find out a lot about ourselves this weekend,” SHSU head coach Brad Hagen said. “It's going to be a real test.”
Sam Houston brings a 37-14 record into the Big Red Invitational. The Bearkats are 12-12 against top 20 rated teams this year but only 4-10 against other teams in the top 10.
The Kats won the team championship in their last tournament, the Hornet Invitational at Montgomery, Ala., and were the runner-up in their season opener at Tulane. In between, SHSU placed seventh at the New Jersey Jamboree and the Valparaiso Crusader Classic.
Sam Houston stands 6-4 against the other seven teams in the event so far this year. The Kats are 2-0 against Wisconsin-Whitewater and McKendree, 1-0 versus Elmhurst, 1-1 with Arkansas State and 0-1 versus Nebraska, Central Missouri and Valparaiso.
Kimi Davidson leads Sam Houston in traditional team play total pins average with a 196.45 mark. Anna Groce owns a 195.24 while Becca Pittser, Neishka Cardona and Erin Brown sport averages of 192.35, 191.36 and 187,94, respectively.
The tournament begins Thursday with five quad baker matches. The Bearkats will play six traditional team matches on Friday and play with end with three team games.
