Sam Houston Earns No. 7 Final National Ranking

After a record-breaking season that saw Sam Houston roll up a school record 102 dual match victories, win five tournament championships and earn an NCAA Elite Eight berth for the second time in the program's three-year history, the Bearkats ended the 2012-13 with a No. 7 final ranking.
NCAA champion Nebraska stands No. 1 the final National Ten Pin Coaches Association (NTCA) rankings, the official poll of collegiate bowling, after defeating Vanderbilt in the national championship match April 13 in Canton, Mich.
Sam Houston went 5-2 in team match play on the first day of the NCAA championships. Their wins included a 961-955 victory over eventual champion Nebraska. The Bearkats faltered in bracket play, however, falling to No. 4 Arkansas State 4-0 and No. 6 Fairleigh Dickinson 4-2.
The Bearkats were one of only two teams in NCAA Division I bowling to post more than 100 dual match wins. On the way to its 102-40 record, Sam Houston brought home championship trophies from tournaments at Tulane, Alabama A&M, Bowie State and Arlington plus the program's second consecutive win at the Track Kat Klash in Huntsville.
Junior Kimi Davidson and senior Michelle Secours both earned All-America honors. Secours is the lone senior on the team.
During the 2012-13 season, Sam Houston compiled a 44-30 record against top 20 ranked opponents. The Bearkats rolled up 23 wins over the other nine teams in the final top 10.
Returning players for next season (and their 2012-13 NCAA team play total pin averages) are Davidson (205.16), Neishka Cardona (198.16), Anna Groce (183.96), Erin Brown (179.49), Becca Pittser (176.75), Hannah Harrison (202.0) and Kelsey Smith (156.5).
