Four Kats Earn Post Season Honors

Sam Houston men's golfers Albert Miner, Justin McKay, Logan Boatner and J. T. Taylor all have earned post-season honors from the Southland Conference.
Miner and McKay are first and third team selections, respectively, on the 2013 All-Southland men's golf honor squad. Boatner and Taylor were named honorable mention All-Southland. Boatner was voted as Southland Conference “Newcomer of the Year.”
Miner led the conference in top-10 finishes on the season with seven including a win at the Louisiana-Monroe Wallace Jones Invitational, April 8-9.
The junior from Katy, Texas, recorded a 73.36 stroke average on the year in 36 rounds. Miner finished the season with a ninth-place tie at the Southland championship with a three-round total of 13-over par 229.
McKay produced a 74.56 overall stroke average this season playing in 12 events. The Crosby senior's best finishes with third place performances at the Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston and Carter Plantation tournaments. He also posted top 20 individual finishes in three other outings.
Boatner is the first Bearkat to be tabbed newcomer of the year since Ryan Polzin won in the award's inception year of 2000. Boatner, who appeared in 12 tournaments on the season, placed in the top 10 twice, including a second-place finish at the Sam Houston State Harold Funston Invitational last October.
The sophomore from Atascocita, Texas, averaged 76.25 strokes per round and recorded a low round of 68 at the Charleston Shootout hosted by the College of Charleston, March 3-4, helping him earn all-conference honorable mention.
Taylor averaged 75.64 strokes in his 36 rounds in 12 tournaments this year. The best finish for the junior from Conroe was a third place performance at Stephen F. Austin. He posted three other top 20 individual finishes during the season.
