Freshman Golfer Has Strong Summer

Incoming freshman Klein Klotz has had an outstanding year on the golf course, including a very strong summer competing in American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournaments.
Klotz put together four top AJGA finishes in a row, capping his run with a final round 63 in a July event in Abilene. In his last five AJGA rounds he was a combined 14-under par with rounds of 69-70-68-68-63 that boasted him a 71.6 scoring average for the summer.
In the spring while still at Lake Travis high school, Klotz posted six second-place finishes. The most impressive finish saw him win the runner-up trophy in the Texas-5A state playoff, capped by a remarkable hole-in-one.
Since his walk-off hole-in-one, Klotz has been on a summer run that has seen him rise as one of the top incoming freshman in the country.
Klotz comes to Sam Houston as one of the highest ranked incoming freshman in SHSU Golf history.
Klotz finished the summer rankings:
- No. 2 ranked golfer in class of 2013 in Texas according to Polo Golf Rankings and Golfweek Rankings
- No. 24 ranked golfer in class of 2013 in the U.S. according to Polo Golf Rankings and Golfweek Rankings
- No. 10 and No. 12 ranked overall in Texas among Junior Golfers according to Polo Golf Rankings and Golfweek Rankings respectively
