Tennis plays Saturday & Sunday At McAdams

After losing a pair of matches to the bad weather the past week, head coach Jim Giachino and the Bearkat women's tennis team is eager to get back on the courts.
Matches with McMurry last Sunday and Arkansas State this week already have been canceled.
Sunday at 1 p.m., Sam Houston opens its 2014 Southland Conference schedule. The Kats also will face Tyler Junior College Saturday at 10 a.m.
“All the girls are eager to get back on the court,” Giachino said. “We're excited about getting the year started and are ready to for the weather to cooperate.”
Sam Houston has reached the semifinals of the Southland Conference post-season tennis tournament each of the past two seasons.
Five veterans from last year's squad – seniors Imke Jagau, Natalie Petaia and Kayla Stevenson, junior Olivia Battye and sophomore Maddie Mortimore. Sophomore transfer Karen Martinez and freshman Bella Costa further strengthen the team.
Sam Houston won its opening match of the year with a 7-0 blanking of North Central Texas College. With Jagau sidelined, the other six Bearkats all won in straight sets.
The Bearkats play at the McAdams Tennis Center.
