Bella Costa and Natalie Petaia of Sam Houston State University have been recognized as Southland Conference champions at the No. 3 doubles position for the 2014 season.
This is the second year for the league to recognize champions at each singles and doubles position.
Conference champions must have played at least 50 percent of conference matches at that position. Results are based off winning percentage, then number of wins.
Costa, a freshman from Sydney, Australia, and Petaia, a senior from Queensland, Australia, produced a 5-2 record at Number 3 doubles.
The pair defeated teams from Lamar, Incarnate Word, Abilene Christian, Nicholls and Stephen F. Austin. Costta and Petaia also won a match at Number 2 doubles versus Central Arkansas.
