Sam Houston senior Kimi Davidson has been named as a third-team honoree and four other Bearkat bowlers are listed as honorable mention selections on the 2014 National Ten Pins Coaches Association All-Academic squad.
In all, 165 student-athletes from 35 NCAA women's bowling programs were named to the NTCA All-Academic team.
The NTCA honored fifteen student-athletes with first, second and third team mention. Eighty-four student-athletes from nineteen schools were named Academic All-Americans.
To be honored, student-athletes had to achieve a minimum of a 3.4 grade point average during the recent academic year.
Davidson, a political science major from Azle, Texas, compiled a 3.66 overall grade point average (GPA) during her four years as a Bearkat. She stands as one of three Bearkats to earn NCAA Women's Bowling All-America honors during the program's four-year history.
Senior Neiskha Cardona, sophomores Erin Brown and Anna Groce and freshman Janine Kuwahara (who joined Davidson as members of the six-member squad that won the NCAA Division I national championship in April) were honorable mention NTCA All-Academic honorees.
The title marks Sam Houston's first NCAA Division I national championship.
Brown is a pre-nursing major with a 3.56 overall GPA. Groce is a biology major with a 3.75 career GPA. Kuwahara is a management major with a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Kelsey Smith, a senior scholarship bowler for the Bearkats, produced a 3.95 overall GPA as a management information systems major.
“At Sam Houston, our goal is to achieve both academically and athletically,” SHSU head coach Brad Hagen said. “The announcement of this year's NTCA All-Academic list brings women's bowling total number of selections to 18 in four seasons. That's a mark we're proud of.”
