National title puts Kats in Capital One Top 50

Sam Houston State University's women's athletic program finished in the top 50 in the final Capital One Cup standings for NCAA Division I sports during the 2013-14 season.
The University of Florida won the 2014 Capital One Cup trophy which awarded annually to the best men's and women's Division I athletics programs in the country, will be formally presented to Florida during the ESPY Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on July 16.
Thanks to the NCAA Division I women's bowling championship in April, Sam Houston's first Division I title in the university's athletic history, the Bearkats finished 32nd in the Capital One Cup standings.
The Bearkats rolled unbeaten through four contests in double elimination baker match play portion of the NCAA Elite Eight at the Game of Wickliffe center to earn the university's first NCAA Division I national championship April 12.
Seniors Kimi Davidson and Neishka Cardona, junior Becca Pittser, sophomores Erin Brown and Anna Groce and freshman Janine Kuwahara teamed to defeat defending national champion Nebraska four games to two in the finals on ESPN national television.
Schools earn points based on their teams' top-10 finishes in NCAA Division I championships and in final official coaches' polls across 20 women's and 19 men's sports as they compete to win the Capital One Cup trophy.
With more than 300 universities competing at the NCAA Division I level, Sam Houston was one of only 96 programs the earn points in the Capital One Cup women's standings.
