Bearkats pick up wins at first tournament

The Sam Houston women's tennis team picked up four singles wins and a doubles victory on the first day of the Northwestern State Demon invitational tournament in Natchitoches, La. Friday.
The tournament, the Bearkats' first of four fall events, will conclude Saturday. The tournament is a flighted event with championships awarded at number one through six singles and one through three doubles.
At number one singles, Fabienne Gettwart defeated Caroline Maso of Lamar 6-1 6-1. Bailey VanDyke defeated Macarena Sedeno of Stephen F. Austin 6-4 6-0 at number four singles.
Mila Milanovich won in the number five flight over Shaunte Southern of Grambling 6-3 6-3. In the number sixth flight Caitlyn Mitchell defeated Tabitha Nankya of Grambling 6-1 6-3.
In three doubles competition Milanovic and Mitchell defeated Tabitha Nankya and Shaunte Southern of Grambling 8-2.
