Men win Wisconsin Badger Invitational

MADISON, Wis. -- The Sam Houston men's golf team cruised to its first team title of the season at the Wisconsin Badger Invitational played on the University Ridge Golf Course. The Bearkats took a 10-shot lead into Tuesday's final round and held on to win by a stroke.
Sam Houston's top four finishers all ended up in the top-10. The Kats had a lead after the first round and led the tournament the rest of the way.
Marquette was in second place for the majority of the tournament but fell to fifth on the final day. Iowa State had a strong third round and finished runner-up to the Bearkats. USC-Upstate was third and Toleda was fourth.
Seniors Zach Cabra and Logan Boatner finished tied for fifth. Cabra was fueled by a second-round 68, while Boatner was consistent for all three rounds, firing 71-73-73.
Sophomores Klein Klotz and Andrew Ertel were ninth and tenth respectively in the standings. Klotz sandwiched a second round 76 with a pair of 71s. Ertel started hot with a 70 in the first round and finished with a one-over 73.
Senior JT Taylor cooled off from his hot start to the season. He was seventh at Southern Miss to lead the Bearkat squad but finished 49th in his second tournament back from injury.
The Bearkats will return to Huntsville to host the Sam Houston Harold Funston Invitational Oct. 6-7 at Raven Nest Golf Course.
Sam Houston will hope to win back-to-back tournaments, as they did last year. Last season the Kats won the Kansas State tournament the week before coming home to claim the Harold Funston Invitational title.
