
Budnik finishes 8th, Bearkats move up to 10th

Sam Houston State's Nicole Budnik captured her fourth top-15 finish of the season, claiming a tie for eighth at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, behind a 7-over, 223, performance, while the squad moved up one spot on the day to take 10th at 79-over, 943.
Washington overwhelmingly claimed the three-day, 36-hole tournament from Tacoma Country & Golf Club in Tacoma, Wash., thanks to a 1-over, 865. The squad finished 31 strokes ahead of second-place Idaho (896) led by individual medalist Julianne Alvarez (5-under, 211).
Following Budnik (75-75-73), Sarah Black (78-78-76) fired her strongest round on the final day, logging a tie for 28th at 16-over, 232. After double-bogeying the 12th, Black went 1-under over her final six holes for the strong finish.
Celeste Lo (84-82-80) took 72nd at 30-over, 246, followed by Jenna Phillips (81-86-80) in a tie for 73rd at 31-over, 247, while Heather Shake (85-81-85) went tied for 79th at 35-over, 251.
As a unit, Sam Houston finished tied for fourth with Cal-State Fullerton, shooting 10-over the course's four par-3's but fired 86-over in 13th on 10 par-4's and 23-over in 14th on the three par-5's.
Gonzaga took third (901), followed by Cal Poly (908), Seattle (915), Cal-State Fullerton (926), Weber State (933), Sacramento State (935), Eastern Washington (942), Sam Houston (943), Grand Canyon (945), Utah Valley (945), Montana (946), Portland State (946), British Columbia (973) and UTRGV (992).
