Duo Advances In Regional Doubles Play

Fabienne Gettwart and Mila Milanovic of Sam Houston both picked up singles victories and advanced to the round of 16 together in doubles to highlight the team's performance at the USTA/ITA Regional tournament hosted by Texas A&M in College Stadium this weekend.
Gettwart defeated Maria Batchinsky of Incarnate Word 6-1 6-4 in the regional first round. Gettwart fell to Mia King of TCU 6-4 6-3 in the second round.
Milanoivc beat Natacha Minc from Texas Rio Grande Valley 6-2 7-5. She lost to Alison Ho of Rice 6-2 6-1 in the second round.
In doubles Milanovic and Gettwart defeated Anna Boarman and Neda Marjanovic of Abilene Christian and Anna Perez and Yadira Rubin of Texas State. The Bearkat lost 6-3 to the number eight seeded team of Neda Kiro and Anna Valenstein of Texas Tech Sunday.
Sam Houston's six other players saw their play in the consolation back draw canceled due to rain after first round losses in the annual tournament which features the top players from 20 NCAA Division I programs across the state.
Carrie Casey lost to Dominque Ibarra from Texas Rio Grande Valley 6-3 6-4. Jessica Bicowski of UTA downed Bearkat Caitlyn Mitchell 6-2 6-0.
Khee Yen Wee lost to TCU's Olaya Garrido 6-2 6-2. Nada Marganovic of Abilene Christian handed Ema Barkovic a 6-3 6-4 loss. Sam Houston's Maddie Mortimore fell to Anastasiya Shestakova of North Texas 6-2 7-5.
In Sam Houston's other doubles matches, Barkovic and Yen Wee lost to Kate Jackson and Felicity Malthy of Texas Tech 6-3 and Mitchell and Mortimore lost to Alison Ho and Katherine Ip of Rice 6-1.
