
Kats in seventh following opening round

The Sam Houston State women's golf team sits in a three-way tie for seventh at 16-over, 304, following the opening round at the Little Rock Golf Classic from the par-72, 6,167-yard Diamonte Country Club in Hot Springs, Ark.
The Bearkats are nine strokes behind leaders Houston Baptist and Central Arkansas, who shot 7-over, 295. Sam Houston's Nicole Budnik and Jenna Phillips are tied for 19th after firing a 3-over, 75, placing them six strokes back of the leaders.
Teammate Sarah Black put together an impressive 4-over, 76, in 28th while Heather Shake carded a 6-over, 78 in 42nd and Celeste Lo sits tied for 53rd at 7-over, 79.
In the team standings, Oral Roberts is third (297), followed by Little Rock (301), Wichita State (301) and Arkansas State (302) in the top six. Sam Houston is tied with Missouri State and Eastern Michigan at 304, while UTEP rounds out the top 10 at 309.
Play resumes Tuesday at 9 a.m. Lo will be the first Bearkat to tee off, doing so at 9:45 a.m. Shake gets underway at 9:54 a.m., Black at 10:03 a.m., Phillips at 10:12 a.m. and Budnik at 10:21 a.m.
