
Nebraska Big Red Classic On Tap This Weekend

Sam Houston's No. 6 ranked women's bowling team travels north to renew its rivalry with top-ranked Nebraska this weekend at the annual Big Red Invitational.
The tournament will take place at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Thursday through Saturday. Per rules of the event, each day will be a separate tournament. The Huskers won two of the three day-long tournaments last season.
The fifth Big Red Invitational begins Thursday with each team playing four five-game Baker matches at 5:45 p.m, followed by six traditional team matches Friday, beginning at 9 a.m. The tournament will conclude Saturday with four traditional team matches, starting at 7:55 a.m.
Eight teams will participate this weekend, including seven teams ranked in the NTCA preseason top 25.
Six top-10 teams will compete, including Nebraska, No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 6 Sam Houston, No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 8 Central Missouri and No. 9 McKendree. The Bearkats defeated NU in the 2014 NCAA Championship match. Valparaiso (No. 15) and Lincoln (Mo.) round out the lineup.
The tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska, is the third outing for the Bearkats this fall. Sam Houston won the All State Sugar Bowl Classic hosted by Tulane in their first event and finished fifth among 26 teams at the New Jersey Jamboree two weeks ago.
Heather Penatzer, Janine Kuwahara and Anna Groce all enter the tournament sporting above 200 pin averages in traditional team play. Penatzer owns a 217.27 average in 15 games, Kuwahara holds a 209.40 mean in 15 games and Groce a 200.75 mark in 16 games.
Other averages for the Bearkats are Stephanie Zavala (195.67), Carrie Hopkinson (191.5), Erin Brown (184.10), Madysen Keller (182.5) and Randi Speiler (165.5).
