
Bearkats finish 8-6 at Big Red Classic

Sam Houston won two traditional team matches and lost two Saturday on the final day of the Big Red Classic hosted by defending NCAA champion University of Nebraska.
The Bearkats defeated Lincoln 1,019 points to 839 and Valparaiso 1,008 to 977. Sam Houston lost to McKendree 937 to 930 and Arkansas State 1,082 to 936.
Sam Houston placed fifth in Saturday's total pin fall standings with a 13,656 total. The Cornhuskers won the day's competition with 14,494 total pins. Arkansas State (14,097), Central Missouri (13,932) and Wisconsin-Whitewater (13,920) place second through four, respectively.
Top scorers for Sam Houston in Saturday's competition were Heather Penatzer with a 207.3 average and Janine Kuwahara with a 199.67 mean. Carrie Hopkinson posted a 198.0 average and Anna Groce with a 196.25 Saturday average.
Next action for Sam Houston will be in Millsboro, Delaware, November 20-22 when the Bearkats compete in the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic.
