
Wichita State shuts out Sam Houston

Wichita State defeated Sam Houston in three doubles encounters and seven singles matches at the Blue and Red Challenge in Dallas hosted by SMU this weekend.
In singles Gabriela Porubin defeated Fabienne Gettwart 7-5 6-2, Khee Yen Wee lost to Julia Schiller 6-2 6-1 and Rebecca Pedrazzi beat Ema Barkovic 6-1 6-0 in the number one through three singles.
Mila Milanovic lost to Abby Stevens 6-1 6-1, Carrie Casey fell to Tanaporn Thongsing 6-3 6-1, Maddie Mortimore was defeated by Giulia Guidetti 6-0 6-2 and Aleks Trifunovic defeated Caitlyn Mitchell 6-1 6-0 in the bottom four singles matches.
In doubles Porubin and Schiller defeated Gettwart and Milanoic 6-2, Pedrazzi and Trifunovia downed Barkovia and Casey 6-3 and Guidetti and Pump knocked off Mortimore and Wee 6-2.
“The team the girls played today was a huge step up from yesterday's match,” head coach Jim Giachino said. “Although the scores don't reflect the overall match, the girls fought for every point. A match like this can't be used as a negative because of the errors that were made, but a positive to see how the girls react to those errors tomorrow.”
Sam Houston will complete play in the tournament, the final event of the fall schedule for the Bearkat tennis team.
