Sam Women's Bowlers No. 4 in NTCA December Poll

With a 48-21 dual match record during the 2015 fall semester, Sam Houston is deadlocked with the Central Missouri Mules for fourth place in the December national women's bowling intercollegiate rankings announced by the National Ten Pins Coaches Association (NTCA) this week.
Arkansas State (38-14) is the nation's top-ranked team. Defending national champion Nebraska (40-16) was voted second followed by Vanderbilt (40-15) in the number three spot. Central Missouri (40-16) and Sam Houston each received 951 votes.
The Bearkats played in five major tournaments during October and November. Sam Houston won the Tulane Invitational, was the runner-up as host of the TRACK Kat Klash in Houston, placed fourth at the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk Classic, fifth at the New Jersey Jamboree and compiled an 8-6 record at Nebraska's Big Red Classic in which no overall team championship was awarded.
Sam Houston stands 38-16 against teams ranked among the top 25 this year and 18-11 against the top 10. Arkansas State holds a 4-0 advantage over the Kats, but Sam Houston went 4-3 against Nebraska, 2-1 with Vanderbilt and 3-0 against the UCM Mules in the squad's meetings with the other three teams rated among the top five.
In traditional team play, Janine Kuwahara leads the Bearkats with a 207.51 average. Heather Penatzer (202.09), Anna Groce (200.36), Carrie Hopkinson (198.65) and Erin Brown (189.29) also have produced top total pin averages.
The Bearkat bowlers resume action by traveling to take on the No. 1 Arkansas State squad and other top teams at the ASU Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Friday January 15 through Sunday January 17.
Sam Houston will play in tournaments in Arlington, Texas; Houston; Brunswick, New Jersey; Nashville, Tennessee and New Orleans during the spring semesters.
