
Bowlers 5-0 on Saturday in traditional team play

No. 4 ranked Sam Houston won all five matches and posted a 204.2 pin fall average to stand in first place headed into best-of-seven bracket play Sunday after Saturday's tradition team action Sunday at the TRACK Kat Klash women's bowling tournament.
The Bearkats defeated No. 8 Stephen F. Austin 1,099 to 960, No. 14 LIU-Brooklyn 1,055 to 982, Louisiana Tech 1,008 to 787, Texas Southern 945 to 922 and the Lumberjacks again 1,038 to 940.
Defending national champion Nebraska went 4-1 and stands in second place going into bracket play. The Cornhuskers compiled a 201.3 pin fall mean.
No. 9 Central Missouri ranks third after traditional team action. The Mules went 5-0 Saturday and own a 197.7 average. The rest of the standings include SFA (3-2, 193.3), LIU-Brooklyn (2-3, 176.1), No. 24 Adelphi (2-3, 174.1), Louisiana Tech (1-4, 169.3), No. 25 Jackson State (1-4, 167.5) and Grambling State 0-5 (130.1).
Sam Houston's Janine Kuwahara led all individuals with a five match average of 224.8. Erin Brown ranked sixth with a 207.6 while Anna Groce was eighth with a 205.8 total pins mean.
The Bearkats went 4-2 in baker team competition on Friday. Sam Houston opened the Friday's match competition with a couple of close losses. Central Michigan won over the Kats by 10 pins 929 to 919 and Nebraska edge the tournament hosts by 11 pins 1,043 to 1,032.
The Bearkats bounced back for four consecutive victories, defeating Adelphi 909 to 981, Grambling 951 to 613, Jackson State 1,063 to 842 and ending the day with a 1,026 to 879 victory in a rematch with the Cornhuskers.
The event is being held at Emerald Lanes located at 9307 Boone Road in Houston.
Team awards will be given for Saturday and Sunday's play for the champion and runner-up. The all-tournament team will consist of the top 5 averages from Saturdays Team Competition.
