Cabra named Southland Golfer of the Month

Sam Houston State senior Zach Cabra was named the Southland Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for February, the league office announced Wednesday. This is the second time Cabra has been honored this season after receiving the award last October.
Cabra fired a 7-under par 65 in the final of the Bayou City Collegiate Championship hosted by Rice in Houston, Texas, Feb. 20-22, to claim his fifth career individual title.
The senior from McKinney, Texas (Boyd H.S.), started the tournament with a 72 followed by a 71 in the second round before shooting 65 to give him a three-round total of 208 and help the Bearkats finish second the event.
Cabra also carded a three-round total of 211 at the Texas-San Antonio Oak Hills Invitational, Feb. 9-10, and a 219 at the Pepperdine Jones Invitational, Feb. 23-24. For the month, Cabra averaged 70.88 strokes in nine rounds with a low of 65.
The Bearkats moved up to No. 46 in the Golf Stat rankings this week.
