
Seniors To Play In Final Matches This Weekend

Seniors Olivia Battye and Karen Martinez will be playing in their final home matches this weekend when the Sam Houston women's tennis team plays host to two of the top teams in the Southland Conference to wrap up the 2015 season.
Battye is in her third season playing women's tennis for the Bearkats. A transfer from Troy University in Alabama, she played in 2012 and red-shirted in 2013. She has been one of the top players in the singles and doubles line-ups the past two seasons.
Battye is from Thornton Hough, Liverpool in England.
Martinez joined the SHSU program as a transfer from Jackson State where she was JSU's “Most Valuable Player” as a freshman in 2013. She has played both singles and doubles for the Bearkats the past two seasons.
Martinez is from Cali in Columbia.
Sam Houston is scheduled to play Stephen F. Austin on Saturday and Northwestern State on Sunday at the McAdams Tennis Center. Both matches are set to start at 1 p.m.
The Lumberjacks and the Demons both are locked in a duel with Nicholls for leadership of the Southland Conference. Nicholls owns a 9-1 conference mark while SFA stands 8-1 and Northwestern State 7-2 in league play. The Jacks are 14-6 for the season while Northwestern State owns an 11-8 mark for the year.
