Bearkats tied for ninth in Hattiesburg

After shooting 14-over through its first two rounds at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate on Monday, the Sam Houston State men's golf team sits tied for ninth with host Southern Miss from the par-71, 6,902-yard Hattiesburg Country Club.
McNeese State paces the 15-team field at 19-under, followed by Louisiana Tech (-7) and Louisiana-Lafayette (-2) as the only squads to finish the day in the green.
Junior Andrew Ertel leads Sam Houston at 5-under after tapping in nine birdies, including six during his second round. The squad's number-one seed is tied for fifth overall and is just three strokes back of a three-way tie for the lead at 8-under.
Freshman teammate Camden DeBonis is tied for 36th at 5-over after birdieing his final two holes while freshman Mason Weld and sophomore Jake McCrory are part of a five-way tie for 52nd at 7-over. Redshirt freshman Logan Yanick is 10-over in 65th and redshirt freshman Jesse Massengale is 14-over in a tie for 74th among 86 golfers.
The Bearkats close out the season-opening tournament on Tuesday with Massengale scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m. followed by Weld at 9:39 a.m., Weld at 9:48 a.m. and DeBonis at 9:57 a.m. Meanwhile, Ertel is seeking his first top-5 finish after posting three top 10 finishes a season ago and is underway at 10:06 a.m.
