
Shake, Kats top leaderboard through Day 1

Playing in just her second Division I tournament, Sam Houston golf transfer Heather Shake matched a program record with a 5-under, 67 opening round, highlighting a 36-hole team score of 594 (+18), to give the Bearkats a four-stroke lead at the Bob Hurley Shootout in Tulsa, Okla., on Monday.
The UH-Victoria transfer leads the 82-member field at 3-under par, 141, after shooting a 2-over, 74 second round, and is four strokes ahead of Stephen F. Austin's Erica Lautensack. Shake tapped in eight birdies, including six during an opening round that saw just one bogey.
Meanwhile, Nicole Budnik sits at 3-over, 174, tied for eighth, helped by a pair of birdies on the 18th to close out her rounds. Teammate Sarah Black is in 15th, shooting a pair of 3-over, 75's.
Jenna Phillips carded a 13-over, 156 in 38th while Celste Lo sits in 55th at 17-over, 161.
Sam Houston is the event's defending champion. Through two rounds a season ago, the Bearkats trailed host Oral Roberts by two strokes at 13-over, 581. This year, the hosts find themselves in fourth at 17-over, 607, 13 strokes behind the Kats.
McNeese State is currently in third at 24-over, 600, trailing Sam Houston by just six strokes. North Texas rounds out the top five at 33-over, 609.
