Kats Show Well At SMU Invitational

DALLAS, Texas – The Sam Houston State Bearkats got three days worth of work in over the weekend, taking part in the SMU Invitational.
Carrie Casey won both of her matches at No. 8 single sand the Kats picked up eight total wins for the weekend across both singles and doubles draws. Casey knocked off UTSA's Diya Menon (6-4, 6-2) in the opening round before coming back after dropping the first set to take care of Abilene Christian's Jordan Henry (4-6, 6-4, 6-2).
She also teamed up with Fabienne Gettwart in No. 2 doubles to knock off Air Force's sister duo of Lilly and Chloe Forlini (6-3). Gettwart also earned a singles win of her own, rebounding from losses on each of the weekend's first two days to close out the tournament with a victory over Marquette's Diana Tokar (6-3, 7-5).
Meanwhile, Mila Milanovic picked up a win in her first match of No. 7 singles over ULM's Luana Stanciu (7-5, 6-1), while Dianne Friedrichs found wins on both the singles and doubles side.
She picked up a (6-3, 6-4) win over SMU's Sara Jamal in No. 9 singles and also was part of two doubles wins with Caitlyn Mitchell in the No. 4 draw. That duo picked off Marquette's Courtney Hebbard and Fleur Eggink (6-4) before ending the weekend with a (6-4) victory over UTSA's Menon and Lina Hallgren.
The Bearkats will now look toward the ITA Regionals in two weeks. That tournament will take place Oct. 20-24 in Waco.
