Bearkats take lead into Day 2 (Running Results)

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- The Kats will begin Day 2 of the NCAA Bowling Championships sitting at the top of the standings with two qualifying matches remaining. They will opening up play Friday morning againast No. 7 Central Missouri and then wrap up play against No. 3 Vanderbilt.
Friday afternoon will mark the start of the double elimination bracket play with two more best-of-seven matches

Game 6 vs No. 7 Central Missouri

The Bearkats dropped the opening match of the day to No. 7 Central Missouri in their worst match of the qualifying round.
Sam Houston got off to a slow start and were never able to recover. They left five of the first 11 frames open, and at the same time UCM had five strikes in the second and seven straight overall.
SHSU started chipping away at the lead, but from strikes from UCM in the ninth silenced any Sam Houston comeback.
For the first time in the championship, the Kats failed to have a bowler top 200 as Anna Groce led the way with a 184.
Game 7 vs. Vanderbilt

The Kats build an early lead and never relinquished it against No. 3-seed Vanderbilt, to finish out qualifying 5-2.
Strikes were hard to come by in the early going, but spares were good enough to keep the Bearkats in front. They then got it going in the seventh frame with four strikes as a team in the seventh, eighth and ninth frames.
Freshman Madysen Keller got it going for the Kats with four straight from the sixth to ninth frames. And then Janine Kuwahara and Heather Penatzer closed strong for the Kats. Kuwahara had five straight strikes to close and Penatzer knocked them all down on her last six rolls. She led the way with a 239, Kuwahara had a 213 and Keller topped 200 with a 209.
