The Bearkat men's golf team played a rain-shortened round of golf on Monday at the Hartford Hawk Invitational in South Kent, Conn. After 18 holes the Kats stand in a tie for fifth after firing a team score of 290.
Jake McCrory led the Kats with a 67 while Andrew Ertel fired a 71.
“It was tough conditions. The guys fought hard and stayed focused,” said head coach Brandt Kieschnick. “We had two really good rounds from Jake and Andrew. If we can come out and play under par tomorrow we can put ourselves in position to win.”
McCrory currently stands in a tie for second, two strokes off the lead.
“It was really an extension from last week,” Kieschnick said about McCrory's round. “He just played real clean. He made three birdies in a row on the back nine and is in a place now where he can go out and win it.”
Ertel is currently in a tie for 18th. Also competing for the Kats is Mason Weld (64th place, 4-over par), Noah Steele (64th, 4-over) and Jesse Massengale (71st, 5-over).
The final round will be played Tuesday.
