Kats finish strong at Bob Hurley Shootout

TULSA, Okla. - The Sam Houston State women's golf team moved up four spots on the leaderboard for a fifth-place finish at Meadowbrook Country Club after 36 holes on the final day of the Bob Hurley Shootout.
The Bearkats did the bulk of their damage in the home stretch, firing a 297 on the last 18 holes of the tournament, the second-best final round of any of the teams in the 17-team field. In all the Kats finished tied in the fifth spot with Wichita State with a three-round total of 925 strokes, 29 shots back of tournament champion Lamar.
Heather Shake was the top finisher for the Bearkats, coming in a tie for 14th after shooting 77-74 on Tuesday. She was one of three Sam Houston players to fire a 74 in the final round, with all five entries turning in their final-round card with scores in the 70s.
Gianti Mahardhika rebounded from an opening-round 80 to card a 75-74 on Tuesday, shooting up the leaderboard to finish the week in a tie for 16th place overall. Hanna Alberto turned in a 79 in the morning round before shooting 74 in the afternoon to tie for 20th.
Meanwhile, Jenna Phillips finished out her week in a tie for 53rd in the 90-player field, turning in an 82 in the second round before going for a 75 on the final 18. Kari Bush rounded out the Bearkat weekend with an 82-79 in her final two rounds, finishing in a tie for 63rd.
Sam Houston State now returns home to Raven Nest next week to host the Bearkat Women's Invitational on Oct. 3-4.
