Kats Earn ITA All-Academic Honor

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Sam Houston State women's tennis team was recently honored as an All-Academic by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team for the 2015-16 season.
To achieve the ITA All-Academic Team Award the squad's GPA must be 3.2 or higher for the academic year, with the Kats blowing past that with a cumulative GPA of 3.68 for the 2015-16 academic year. This marks the fourth straight year that the women's tennis team has achieved the prestigious honor.
“Obviously I am very proud of this accomplishment both as a team and individually for the women," Bearkat head coach Rob Hubbard said. "We continue to stress the word student-athlete in our program and the women's tennis team have certainly grasped that concept.”
Additionally, five individuals on the 2015-16 squad qualified for ITA Scholar-Athlete Award including Fabienne Gettwart, Ema Barkovic, Carrie Casey, Caitlyn Mitchell, Madeleine Mortimore and Bailey Van Dyke.
The individual honor requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the academic year. Sam Houston has garnered 25 Scholar-Athlete Awards over the past five years.
